Time to think

So here I am, back in Indy. Not yet back to Lafayette, but sitting in the Starbucks enjoying a vanilla bean frappacino while I wait for Karl to pick me up. A lot of things can happen in a 5 hour flight, it really blows your mind. Most importantly, I finally finished reading unChristian. It’s such a powerful book, and not because of the insight it has, though its highly valuable. But just the immense amount and depth of information the research uncovers is utterly sobering. It wasn’t all news to me, but now its beyond my feelings or opinion. It’s researched fact. Undeniable. Unavoidable.

Where do we go now?

I would hope people would look at us and say, “Those Christians are the ones who run in when eveyrone else is running out. Those Christians are the ones who didn’t give up on the crumbling inner cities. Those Christians are the ones who brought peace to Darfur. Those Christians are the ones who put an end to human trafficking. Those Christians are the ones who helped win the war on AIDS around the world. Those Christians are the ones who write those incredible lyrics, pen those unforgettable books, and create artwork thats mesmorizing. Those Christians are the ones who helped my mother when she got Alzheimer’s. Those Christians are the ones who were kind to me when I was new to the area. Those Christians are the ones that made me want to believe in God.”

In response to where Christianity will be in 30 years if we realize how unChristian we have been and start being Christ-like.

What would it look like to change the face of Christianity? To change the image people have of Christians? To be known for what we’re for and not what we’re against. To be known for our love?

It’s beautiful, isn’t it?
